“One of the best tributes to be given to a towering Muslim leader of Kerala” — The Hindu

MALAPPURAM, OCTOBER 14, 2018 Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal, former State president of the Indian Union Muslim League, has been a revered figure among Muslims not only in Kerala but in the Arabian Gulf as well. A book of illustration eulogizing the Thangal through aphorisms and terse quotations has become the talk of the town, particularly among the Muslims in the Gulf.

Titled ‘Slogans of the Sage’, the book by UAE-based Indian writer Mujeeb Jaihoon contains 200-odd pages of sayings and quotations by Shihab Thangal in two parts. When the first part furnishes the Thangal’s pithy quotes on topics such as philosophy, philanthropy, pluralism, politics, and personality, the second part is a tribute to the saintly figure through aphorisms. The beautiful illustrations by Shiyas Ahmad Hudawi have rendered the book more appealing. Published by the Syed Shihab International Summit 2017, organised by Dubai Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), the book is one of the best tributes to be given to a towering Muslim leader of Kerala. P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, in his foreword, says that Slogans of the Sage is the first of its kind in diction and design. “As an unconventional politician, Syed Shihab was mildly and miserly-spoken,” says Mr. Jaihoon, a well-known Shihabophile who has made lasting contributions among the literary forums in the Gulf.
