His premature demise shrouded in doubtful circumstances is a shame on the civil conscience of Kerala. His loss is the loss of a scholar and mathematician, not just a languid clergyman. The perpetrators behind his disappearance have to be brought to book without fear or favor, whatsoever be their nepotistic nexus with the power corridors. The murder of CM Qazi is the twin murder of rational thought and moral practice. Both cannot go scot-free.

CM Abdulla Moulavi , or CM Qazi ,was a man of many hats. It would be unjust to restrict his influence to a mere ‘turbanhead’ alone. I would prefer to rather differ in even calling him ‘Ustad’, for its narrow and reluctant recognition in our social strata. An avid astronomer, a magnificent mathematician, a judicious jurist, a laborious lover of literature, an enlightening educationist… CM Qazi was a walking encyclopedia who lived in the border town between Kerala and Karnataka. He was a master of four languages including Arabic, English and Urdu, besides his native tongue. He beautifully rendered into Arabic a poem from Allama Iqbal, the Poet-Philosopher of pre-partition India.
