[Bavu Haji, a prominent Keralite living in Sharjah for the past 30 years, works at Sharjah General Post Office . He is an active social worker who helps the deprived, irrespective of race or religion, through funds and charities. He is also a honorary member in many cultural organizations. He retires on Dec. 31 2000. Following is an extract from the interview with Nisar Syed of Radio Asia]
Nisar Syed: You have witnessed both the olden times and the technological era. You have lived when there were no air conditioners or telephones. Can you explain the living condition of those times? How you spent your days and nights…?
Bavu Haji : It was hot… but, as you might’ve noticed, there was a huge open tower on the roof through which fresh air would descend down to cool the house (see the pic). This was seen even on small huts. It is still seen on some of the monuments in Sharjah.
