As part of the research for the project (codenamed ‘From sand dunes to paddy fields), a meeting was held with the late historian on 17th July 2000 in Cochin.

With CK Kareem at Cochin.

It was early in the morning at 8.30 and he was having his morning Tea along with a dozen of tablets.

The scholar had already undergone a serious operation for heart and was strictly advised to take rest. But despite his poor health, Mr. Kareem was enthusiastic to spend some time and answer some of the questions regarding Keralite Muslims and the Portuguese crusades.

He had high regard for the Marakkars, the naval heroes of Indian freedom struggle. He also gave his book (seen in the pic) History of Kerala and of her Muslims.

Dr. C.K. Kareem, the renowned historian and the secretary of Kerala History Association, passed away at the age of 72.

He was the author of more than 25 books, in English and Malayalam and is reputed for his voluminous work on the history of Kerala Muslims.

The Aligarh Muslim University conferred upon him doctorate degree for his research work on Tipu Sultan and Haider Ali. He had also served as the head of Islamic History department in the Calicut University. His works in English include
